Serving mamas & babies with compassion
Welcome! I'm so excited that you are here!
First, you found out that you're expecting...
And today, you are taking the next step in your pregnancy journey:
choosing your birth team!
Birth is sacred, and you deserve respectful care.
My name is Ciara Lee, and it would be an honor and a privilege to serve you as your homebirth midwife. I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) that serves within approximately an hour of the Dayton, OH area. I feel that it is super important to find the best midwife for you-- So, spend some time interviewing midwives, until you have met your match!
I am a strong believer that God has divinely designed female anatomy to work perfectly when it is left unbothered, in the majority of situations. Your body and your baby are smart, and they know exactly what to do. Many people trust their body to sustain a pregnancy, but begin to have doubts about a physiologic birth toward the end. Much of this is due to societal pressure and generations of birth trauma being passed down. I would love to help ease those doubts, be a wealth of information and resources, and encourage you to chase after the birth of your dreams.
YOU CAN DO THIS.
Philosophy of Care
I believe that hiring a Midwife with skills, tools, and knowledge will help families receive well-rounded prenatal care to prepare them for the birth of their baby, while providing them with personalized education along the way. Babies know how to be born, but variations of normal do sometimes happen and having a Midwife present can result in better maternal and neonatal outcomes. Research is clear that Midwife-attended, planned homebirths have similar birth outcomes when being compared to planned birth center births and planned hospital births.
Additionally, I believe that families should not feel ashamed to ask ALL of their questions, and I look forward to providing answers, guidance, and helping them through the shared decision making process. I believe that quality nutrition and hydration, evidence informed practice, and trauma informed care builds trust, healthy mothers, and healthy babies.
Many families are only a few generations removed from homebirth. Our own grandparents or great-grandparents likely had babies at home. "Way back then," and in the present day, it has been proven that Midwives positively change their communities, lessening the atrocious mortality and morbidity rates that mamas and babies face in the United States today. Midwives make a difference-- One birth at a time. I also believe that mamas and babies work together as a dyad... during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. And I have personally witnessed, time and time again, that a positive and supported birth and postpartum experience can shift generational patterns and generations to come.
Statement of Ethics
Midwifery care with me is based on the Midwifery Model of Care. ALL clients will be treated with respect, dignity, and equity, regardless of their race/ethnicity, gender identification, religious beliefs, and/or socioeconomic status. I will provide safe care and ensure client confidentiality (except in rare situations that may be required to be reported by law). Evidence-based education will be provided to all clients, so they can work with me as their maternity care provider to utilize shared decision making that respects the client’s personal autonomy. I will not intentionally cause harm, and will work to correct any unintentional injustices, should they occur. I will also hold personal boundaries in place to ensure that I, too, am protected from harm and that my professional autonomy is intact.
